New Gear for 2019

I have already written about the Atlas backpack I purchased earlier and I am still breaking it in. But I added to my gear list this month for somethings I have been wanting.

First up a HUGE Schneider Symmar 300/500 f5.6 convertible lens. This lens is almost as big as my 100-400 Canon lens and probably heavier. I need to make/find a copal #3 lensboard for it so I can try it out. 500mm is the max for my camera and that would be new territory for me since I usually shoot very wide. May need a monopod or front support.

Second – I have been debating whether to buy a 6×7 or 6×9 camera for my “extras” when out in the field. Instead I picked up a Horseman 6×9 back that fits on my Chamonix 4×5 camera. This MF back will allow 8 shots on a single roll of 120 Film and won’t require me to change the setup of my enlarger the way 135 film does. I can also try some different films that are available in smaller sizes like Delta 400. I’m still not great at loading roll film spirals but I will get the hang of it sooner or later. If I like the tool, I may have to buy the Lab Box for processing. I may also consider a 6×12 back if I run across a bargain.

And lastly due to necessity – 2 new cable releases. Fortunately Wings Camera had some used ones in good shape. My last one suddenly stretched or got out of whack to the point the end was not extending more than a quarter of an inch. I need to get some red tape to put on these so if I drop it in the woods I can find them easily. They tend to come off while walking with lens on camera.

Other things on my wishlist:
Panasonic S1 Digital camera or possibly a Leica M digital.
Tall lightweight tripod.
More time to enjoy shooting and printing.
