Its still raining and cool in May here in North GA so I decided to do a little experimenting. I saw some recent discussions on 2 bath and read a related article by Sandy King using Pyrocat HD as 2 bath, so I thought I would test my own blend of Pyrocat-M (with Metol) to see if it works.
Film FP4+
Scene – woodland with dark underbrush and hints of the sky above, Lots of green mid tones and white laurel flowers. – about 6.5 stops.
Presoak 5 mins 75* in a Steaman SP445 tank – single sheet
Part A 25ml + 475ml Water, 5mins with continuous agitation
2nd Bath Part B 25ml + 475 Water for 5 mins with mostly continuous agitation
STop Bath – plain water 1 minute
Fix – TF5 for 5 minutes
Wash 12 minutes
Result – Very thin negative, with some detail, but I had hoped it would be a bit more dense.
I will likely put this into the tool box for when I know I forgot to stop down the lens or those rare very high contrast scenes.
I suppose I could try again with more developer but that negates the benefit of using pryocat and its ultra low dilutions.
